euromicron subsidiary telent implements high-speed backbone network
telent GmbH, a euromicron Group company, is implementing the new high-speed backbone network for the Eastern Bavarian telecommunications company R-KOM GmbH & Co. KG. In an extensive technological selection process, the regional carrier chose the packet optical transport platform (POTP) SPO 1400 from Ericsson. As the strategic partner of Ericsson, telent will supply R-KOM not only with the hardware, but also a tailor-made package of services comprising network design, configuration, management integration and service.
High-performance system technology for residential and business services
By selecting the SPO 1400 product family from Ericsson, the Regensburg-based telecommunications company R-KOM is setting store by one of the most powerful, yet most compact hybrid Ethernet and SDH-based solutions. With the new system technology, R-KOM will migrate aggregation of the Gigabit passive optical network (GPON), digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) and Ethernet networks to the connection-oriented MPLS-TP and ensure integration of innovative telecommunications solutions long term.
“We’re delighted to offer our customers excellent possibilities for high-speed connectivity together with telent and Ericsson. As a result, we provide them with a powerful and future-proof network that already supports the services of tomorrow,” is how Alfred Rauscher, Managing Director of R-KOM, underlines the decision in favor of telent. By choosing telent as the backbone provider, R-KOM ensures that existing and above all future technologies can be integrated in its network at any time.
High speed for R-KOM’s broadband network
Growing broadband requirements mean the focus is on integrating new technologies for R-KOM’s new network. Important criteria in selecting the product were MEF compliance on the basis of MPLS-TP, the switching capacity of more than 1T and the service rates of 2M to 100G.
The Ericsson SPO 1400 family ideally fulfills the demanding needs of telecommunications companies such as R-KOM.
The access network assigns the transmission capacity available in the backbone in the kbit/s range to the customer in question and services, flexibly and to suit requirements, and provides various interfaces for a universal customer connection.
The Ericsson SPO 1400 family offers full flexibility and scalability for broadband expansion: The hybrid SDH-TDM-WDM/OTN package architecture and the connection-oriented MPLS-TP with Ethernet mean greater performance. As a result, TDM and IP services can be implemented in top quality (QoS) using a standardized transport system of R-KOM.
