Implementation of high-performance fiber-optic infrastructure components
Enterprises need a reliable and powerful fiber-optic infrastructure to be able to transport their data quickly and securely. The euromicron Group unites extensive expert know-how in the field of fiber optics and leverages it to create innovative, customized network solutions for successfully accomplishing the digital transformation. The euromicron subsidiaries MICROSENS and euromicron Deutschland recently implemented high-performance infrastructure components that enable secure high-speed data transfer for the Wuppertal-based Barmenia Versicherungen, one of Germany’s largest insurance companies. This new installation had become necessary because the previous infrastructure was outdated and could no longer cope with growing bandwidth needs. The modernization measures were implemented on two exclusively leased fiber-optic links connecting an external data center with Barmenia’s headquarters in Wuppertal.
As part of the project, technicians from euromicron Deutschland replaced the existing wavelength division multiplexing system with the multiplexing platform MSP 1000 from MICROSENS. The modular system enables transmission capacities of several 100 Gigabit/s and so fully meets Barmenia’s high bandwidth requirements. Since just under 50 percent of the company’s Internet traffic is also handled over the two fiber-optic links, an optical early-warning system was also installed to protect the highly sensitive data: the MICROSENS Optical Power Monitor. The device monitors the optical power on the optical fibers and makes manipulation attempts and damage visible right away.
After the project had been completed, Dr. Uwe Fasting, Head of the Infrastructure and Architecture Management department at Barmenia, was highly satisfied: “The rapid response and competent support from euromicron Deutschland and MICROSENS was outstanding and truly inspired us. The switchover was made in a very short time and without any hitches whatsoever. We therefore feel sure that we’ll be given excellent support at all times.”
“The project is a fine example of what synergy effects can be produced by collaboration between euromicron’s subsidiaries,” emphasizes Jürgen Hansjosten from euromicron’s Executive Board. “Our group’s combined expertise ensures projects go smoothly and creates genuine value added for customers at all levels – from planning, supply of the network components to system integration. Thanks to this extensive solution portfolio, we can respond to all requirements flexibly and efficiently and also accomplish complex customized solutions in a very short space of time.”
