euromicron Deutschland installs new video surveillance system at Hanover Central Station

Cutting-edge IP video technology supports the station’s security concept

euromicron Deutschland GmbH, one of Germany’s leading system houses in the future market of the Internet of Things, has once more successfully supported Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) in implementing its security program. The long-standing partner to DB equipped Hanover Central Station with a leading-edge video surveillance system within the project’s very short time frame.

The station in the capital of the federal state of Lower Saxony is one of the most-frequented long-distance train stations in Germany and, with around 280,000 travelers a day, ranks the sixth busiest nationwide after Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt/Main, Berlin and Cologne. Since traffic converges on it from the North-South and East-West axis, it is a key node in Deutsche Bahn’s rail network.

The work in the project at Hanover Central Station was carried out in strict compliance with all deadlines and security requirements. euromicron’s subsidiary installed a total of around 170 full-HD IP video cameras and a central video management system, as well as expanding the underlying network cabling. The project’s highlight was implementation of a complete cable infrastructure with several multi-pair fiber-optic cables for the station’s new 3-S center (3S is the German acronym for Cleanliness, Service, Security). euromicron’s technicians reliably coped with the special technical challenge of mainly performing installation during the night shift and using route systems in false ceilings in front of and in stores in the station’s row of shops.

The new video surveillance system will support Deutsche Bahn in its tasks and the police in averting threats and prosecuting crimes. The security control centers are provided with full-HD live pictures of all areas of the station. As a result, the video cameras increase the security of all passengers, not least when there are a large number of travelers or major events, such as soccer games. The previous video surveillance system was switched off as soon as the new solution was put into operation.

“Security at stations is demonstrably enhanced by state-of-the-art video surveillance systems. The high-resolution video cameras help optimize coordination of processes at the station and improve investigation of criminal acts,” emphasizes Lothar Richter, Video WLAN Project Manager at euromicron Deutschland. “We’re proud that we’ve been able to successfully continue our long-standing project partnership with Deutsche Bahn with the video surveillance solution at Hanover Central Station. The fact that the old system was turned off right away shows the great confidence DB has in us and is further testimony to the quality of our work.”
