euromicron’s subsidiary MICROSENS is the only manufacturer in the world to have developed and produce its own SFP transceiver certified for use in potentially explosive areas in accordance with the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC.
The product innovation from MICROSENS is again the fruit of the increased investment by euromicron in developing new products and solutions and in updating its existing portfolio. “This underscores our mission to be a leading all-round solution provider for network infrastructures in Germany with products and services that repeatedly occupy a top position,” explains Thomas Hoffmann from the Executive Board.
MICROSENS, a leader in fiber-optic technology, now develops and produces SFP transceivers certified in accordance with EU Directive 94/9/EC. This Directive defines the requirements for products to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX), such as can be found in oil and gas production and at chemical plants.
The devices used in these areas must under no circumstances generate energy densities that can ignite ambient gas and dusts in normal operation or in the event of a fault.
Data transfer by optical fibers is ideally suited for potentially explosive atmospheres because it is potential-free, i.e. no critical energies in the form of electric currents are transferred. Nevertheless, the energy density of the optical power in a fiber may ignite explosions.
The optical interface of the MICROSENS SFP transceiver meets the requirements of DIN EN 60079-28 for inherently safe optical radiation (“op is”). The precise specifications for the ignition protection class can be found in the data sheet or the EC type examination certificate for the transceiver.
In accordance with the ATEX regulations, the certified products may only be made at specially certified business establishments. To produce the devices in compliance with Directive 94/9/EC, MICROSENS has thus certified its own production operations in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 80079-34.
