euromicron plans and implements a surveillance and security network and corresponding applications at Werl Prison without interruption to its operations and in compliance with the specifications of the responsible Building and Real Estate Establishment NRW Soest
euromicron systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the euromicron Group, is equipping Werl Prison with a high-performance surveillance and security network and applications to match as part of the extensive expansion and modernization measures that have been underway since 2008. Apart from the network-based video technology for camera surveillance, the public address system and integration of the perimeter sensors have been planned and implemented in the first phase of the project. Approximately 850 inmates are accommodated in the three buildings, making the prison one of the largest in Germany.
Longstanding, responsible partnership
euromicron systems has been working on behalf of the responsible Building and Real Estate Establishment of North Rhine-Westphalia (BLB NRW) since 1999. “Trustworthy cooperation is vital in this sensitive field. After all, we bear responsibility while working at the prison for ensuring that all security precautions for employees, the public and inmates are observed,” explains Frank Neffe, Head of System Technology at euromicron systems.
euromicron systems delivers a persuasive high-tech solution concept
The new grounds completed in 2008 at Belgische Straße in Werl have enlarged the prison’s total area by round three to 13 hectares. The reinforced section within the wall grew to around eight hectares. The extension covers 6,500 m³ of converted space. euromicron impressed the BLB with its experience in handling prison projects. The turnkey solution concept for the camera surveillance system met both the technical and financial stipulations.
In the project’s first phase, euromicron systems implemented the network-based video technology with analog camera systems, along with image storage and video management with operating equipment and a monitor wall. The system components were connected by fiber optic and copper solutions (Cat 7/two-wire/coaxial). The exterior camera and lighting systems also have a high-performance 230V power supply.
“The homogeneous, cutting-edge all-round solution ideally fulfills our very individual requirements. The complex system has proven to be stable and reliable in operation. It is easy to use, clear and supplies high-quality live pictures and recordings,” is the verdict of Heribert Schüttler, Project Manager at BLB NRW.
Mobile solutions complement network-based systems
The first phase was then followed by planning and setting up of an emergency paging and fire alarm system. The emergency paging system is an internal mobile network whose end-user devices allow prison employees to be reached and located in any situation. It reacts automatically when used incorrectly and so is an excellent means of repelling and warning of risks in situations where prisoners attack employees, for example. It is linked to Werl Prison’s telecommunications system. In addition, it and the fire alarm system are linked to the danger management system installed by euromicron, to which the video surveillance and other systems can also be connected.
“The Werl Prison project demonstrates the entire complexity of today’s security, communications and data technology. Only the very highest technical standards and an end-to-end view of all the technologies and trades involved yields future-proof results like those we guarantee our customers,” stresses Thomas Hoffmann, member of the Executive Board of euromicron AG.
