euromicron solutions ensure end-to-end availability for ITC applications
Have you gone for hours without being able to access your e-mails, has your phone been blocked because of a power failure, or have your video surveillance signals failed or been fuzzy? In the age of communications technology, where just about all processes are based fully or partly on ITC systems, such failures – however slight – can no longer be tolerated. End-to-end availability of ITC applications is less the result of a service provider who is constantly on hand to rectify your problems around the clock. Application availability is mainly ensured by high-quality components, circumspect planning and careful installation and maintenance of the ITC network. euromicron delivers these active and passive network elements and offers all-round solutions that proactively equip potential weak points in a sub-area with in-built security features to guarantee reliable operation.
At this year's CeBIT 2008 in Hanover, the world’s largest ITC trade fair, euromicron is showcasing products and solutions that ensure end-to-end availability. euromicron stands for the competence of a manufacturer of fiber-optic components for creating reliable, holistic solutions for communications and security applications.
euromicron ensures end-to-end availability of data centers and server farms with its expertise and efficiency in fields ranging from fiber-optic infrastructure, access and surveillance systems to equipping control centers with control stations and large panel displays. This all-round solution is called Data Center Solutions and will be demonstrated vividly in live operation at the trade fair in cooperation with Jungmann Systemtechnik.
Inherent availability is ensured by high-quality euromicron products such as the modular and flexible fiber optic system URM®, which not only eliminates cable spaghetti at data centers, but also enables any conversion work there to be carried out quickly, securely and flexibly, and with minimum downtimes for the affected components. Among other things, euromicron is also qualified as a system integrator to plan and integrate the cabinet system RIMATRIX-5 with its built-in cooling and emergency power supply system – a further component for inherent system availability and security at data centers.
Apart from data security, the entire issue of building and access security at data centers is crucial in end-to-end availability. euromicron offers Control Solutions, which include an access control system with video surveillance based on the Internet and applications such as 360 degree illumination, picture selection, focusing, storage, etc. This system is expanded into an integrated and active security solution for data and control centers and process control systems in cooperation with Jungmann Systemtechnik, whose graphics system clearly presents alarm signals from video surveillance and access control networks on large display screens and analyzes them rapidly. That enables constantly up-to-date, real-time monitoring of performance and processes via an active network, as well as complete surveillance of access and premises. An ergonomic control station workplace developed by euromicron, with a flexible and modular design, creates transparency and gives users a feeling of composure, even in critical situation.
Fiber-to-the-Office (FTTO) solutions from the fiber topics expert euromicron lead directly from the data center to the workplace. The advantages of fiber optics ensure the high availability and future proofness of voice, data and video applications (triple play). The intelligent combination of copper and fiber optic cabling with active and passive installation components pooled in euromicron’s em-net® system complements these security requirements with large ranges and bandwidths, long periods of use, cost-effective integration of data and voice (VoIP) and small cable volumes, resulting in less cost for fire prevention and expansion of cable channels.
Instead of cumbersome network devices with loose connectors, euromicron has developed the Power-Over-Ethernet solution that also ensures end-to-end availability of communications applications when it comes to power supply. While data is transferred via Ethernet, the connected end-user device, such as a phone, video camera, etc., is supplied with power via the same connection. A power supply concept with an installation switch, intelligent switch power management, together with a hybrid wire/plastic fiber connection and euromicron’s EM-RJ® connector, ensures not only adequate system availability, but also protects the end-user devices thanks to continuous monitoring.
To deal with the remaining cable spaghetti, euromicron boasts an innovative cable management solution in the form of a variable cable register for the workplace.
End-to-end availability is especially important in industrial applications in production, transportation, traffic systems, the energy industry, mining, the military and surveillance. euromicron has also expanded its competence in Industrial Solutions. On the basis of patented ring structures that enable redundant fiber-optic ring structures in Ethernet networks, self-healing fiber-optic ring structures ensure application availability. In addition, robustness, integrated overvoltage protection, operation in a larger temperature range and a stable design are indispensable for industrial use if availability has to be ensured.
“Once again, euromicron has taken a major step toward expanding its market position as a leading provider of voice, data and security applications even further. We are now also represented at three locations in Austria and have strengthened our expertise in mobile communications to such an extent that we now master all mobile applications at our Competence Center Mobile Solutions and can over them wholesale to our customers. We have increased our know-how in active network technology as a result of acquisitions, with the result that euromicron is able to implement applications with end-to-end availability for voice, data and video transport with its own high-quality products and broad competence in planning and integration,” emphasizes Dr. Edgar Bernardi, the member of euromicron AG’s Executive Board responsible for Market, Technology, Products and Operations. “Since physical security (access control, alerting, etc.) and logical security (firewalls, virus and data protection, redundancy, etc.) play a significant part in ensuring end-to-end availability of communications applications, euromicron expanded its portfolio in good time to include Security Solutions. A further key factor is our experience in developing and manufacturing high-quality active and passive fiber optic components and our multi-vendor qualifications for just about all well-known IT and telecommunications products. At the end of the day, our customers and their really complex applications challenge us to keep on offering competent solutions and make their applications available end-to-end,” notes Dr. Bernardi appreciatively.
