Rugged solution for transportation and industrial applications
As part of euromicron’s innovation initiative, its subsidiary Microsens is also expanding its portfolio systematically: With its Profi Line Rack Switch, it now offers a powerful system for creating highly complex network topologies that is suitable specifically for use in harsh environmental conditions. Among other things, it enables the typical ring structures of ITS (intelligent transportation system) networks to be implemented reliably.
euromicron’s innovation initiative is being put into practice rigorously: In line with the whole group’s goal of adapting its full range of network infrastructure solutions to current market needs at all times, the euromicron subsidiary Microsens is expanding its portfolio to include a Gigabit Ethernet switch for rack installation. The Profi Line Rack Switch is insensitive to electromagnetic disturbances and tolerates ambient temperatures of –40 to +75°C. That makes it particularly suited for transportation and industrial applications under harsh environmental conditions. Typical application areas of the new switch include traffic control systems (intelligent transportation systems/ITS), toll bridges on motorways, camera systems for tunnel surveillance and network infrastructures in heavy industry and mining that are sensible to failure.
The new Microsens switch impresses with its versatility and great reliability. With its total of 25 Ethernet ports, of which up to eight can be expanded into fiber-optic connections, and its total of 16 copper ports, which thanks to PoE (Power over Ethernet) and PoE Plus can also supply power to devices (such as cameras), it supports the creation of even highly complex network topologies. For example, ring structures such as are typical of ITS and industrial networks can be implemented quickly and easily with the Profi Line Rack Switch. The high availability that is vital in such topologies is ensured by a patented protective mechanism: If a network node fails or a cable route is interrupted, the Microsens switch automatically ensures the network is reconfigured in less than 20 milliseconds. And the recovery times are also short if the switch has to be replaced: The operating system, firmware and configuration data are stored on an SD card, which is then simply integrated in the new switch.
